Suits and Sneakers: how Robert rolls

By Hindustan Times
The Iron Man’s got some swag, on the screen and off it too. Apart from the mean machine, the franchise’s leading actor Robert Downey Jr. thoroughly stuck to a noticeable style during the numerous appearances across the world for the third installment of the franchise that hit the screens last month.  What caught our eyes and our fancy too is his super cool style, dapper tuxes coupled with sneakers. The actor’s fashion choices might seem out-of-the-box, but the smooth style sailor seemed to pull the relaxed look off.

“Robert has a unique sense of style. And it is usually very well put together. He also has this insane sense of humour which translates in his looks as quirks, like the occasions where he pairs sneakers with his tux. Fashion is all about breaking and making rules and I love the actor’s style risqué,” says Santu Mishra, fashion blogger and stylist.
While the rock-n-roll nonchalance works for the Iron Man, you’ve got to have dollops of confidence to pull off the superhero look. “This look may work on the ramp, but might be a little too radical for reality. Trends are many a times personal. Robert brings together two elements of different worlds, and that’s where the novelty is,” says designer Nida Mahmood.
Nikhil Mehra from designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil adds, “This is a big trend among younger celebs like Bradley Cooper, who just want to show their sporty side. A tux is usually worn on the red carpet so pairing it with sneakers gives a casual chic look to the outfit...This trend is inspired by the Japanese street style and I can see it becoming popular among the masses. It’s essentially a common man trend to wear a pair of sneakers with pants.” So, if you want to recreate Downey Jr.’s suit and sneaker look, do it with an iron fist of individuality.
